Great debateReader comment on item: Moderate Islam: Western Ally or Western Myth? Submitted by Rebecca Moulds (United States), Dec 28, 2009 at 22:54 The debate between Wafa Sultan and Daniel Pipes was truly enlightening, but Wafa Sultan omitted something that I think is quite important: She did not say "Many religions believe in a Supreme Being." The fact that she didn't mention Allah in her description of Islam (which she said is not a religion) is also quite telling. Her passion against Islam comes from her own personal experiences. Both parties had legitimate and intelligent arguments; Wafa Sultan, because of having been immersed in Islam and also because she is a woman, has a more subjective and critical view of Islam, and Dr. Pipes has a more objective and open view, being that he is not Muslim. Although they disagreed about what a radical Muslim is, both believe that Islam is capable of change or reform. There were many important and thought-provoking points presented by both parties, and it's certain that this debate will go on and on without a satisfactory conclusion.
