Mohammed the mould

Reader comment on item: Moderate Islam: Western Ally or Western Myth?

Submitted by Jim Beam (Germany), Dec 30, 2009 at 00:15

As long as Mohammed is the mould how can Islam moderate itself? It's dynamic will always be derived from the life of Mohammed which can never be changed. The Koran and Mohammed stand or fall together. Was Mohammed's life characterised by moderation? Islam can only be moderated by force and restraint from a source external to itself, i.e. the "secular" , non-theocratic, non-Islamic state in some form or another. Anything else is wishful thinking in my opinion.
