more terrorism?
Reader comment on item: Are We Safer?

Submitted by m bond (United States), Apr 30, 2002

Read your recent article that outlined terrorist activity roughly from Beiruit, '83 to the present. Is it not true that hi-jackings of planes and other similar Arab/Muslim terrorist activity began in the late 60s? My recollection, and it is only that admittedly, is that a Palestinian group was the first to hi-jack a plane in roughly '68 or '69. I have looked for a chronology of these types of events on the web but have not found one to this point.

It is true that Arab/Muslim activity in this area was overshadowed by leftist groups such as Baader Meinhof, Red Brigade, etc. during the late 60s and the 70s and it is also true that Beiruit '83 represented a "turning point" or a seeming escalation. But haven't some incidents occurred since the late 60s?
