Always glad to hear from someone else who has a grip on reality in the Twilight ZoneReader comment on item: The Democrats and Israel Submitted by kman (United States), Jan 27, 2009 at 17:29 I have been getting the gradual impression for years that the American public was more and more dis-interested, clueless, self-absorbed, and absolutely unconnected to any awareness at all of politics and world/national events. I hadn't realized it had gone to this depth or that anyone could just go out there and campaign strictly on campaign rhetoric to the absolute exclusion whatsoever of who that politician is and has been, what he believes, says, and writes. I can't say I was completely caught of guard, but to some extent, I thought there was at least enough people who gave some thought to a politician's previous life to vote somewhat ralisticaly. Obama & camp read the American public flawlessly and proved that Americans have no idea at all how to choose a candidate. I think there has to be an intensive increase on the part of those who are "aware" to wake up what is left of our country. I believe, however, that the level of control now in the hands of the current administration, is going to be severely damaging to the point of their possibly consolidating that control to whatever extent they wish over the next four years, perhaps even to the extent that third world dictators are moving to increase their term limits (i.e. Chavez of Venezuela). The laws on the table right now waiting to be be put into the books are a shoo-in with the absolute supremacy now enjoyed by the Liberal Democrats. I'm hoping that those "Blue Dog" Dems are able to exert a lot more influence than they have Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
