Reader comment on item: The Democrats and Israel

Submitted by Arlinda (United States), Jan 21, 2009 at 19:41

As an active forty year registered member of the Democratic Party, I have witnessed a once overwhelmingly pro-Israel party slowly begin a descent into geo-political blindness. Explanations aka excuses for the descent, range from Israeli expansionism to Palestinian victimization. The Israelis were guilty of war crimes, the Israelis were guilty of impoverishing the Palestinians, the Israelis were guilty of everything, the Palestinians were victims of everything. It was a slow descent but a steady one.

The Democratic Clinton administration bullied Israel into negotiating with the likes of Arafat who had ingratiated himself with European world leaders to achieve world acclaim and sympathy. The United States during the Democratic Clinton administration became an active participant by encouraging the Israelis to negotiate via a a peaceful settlement with killers and murderers

As I write this, our new Democratic President has just announced that he called the leaders of all the Middle East countries to announce a new peace effort. Thank God that Israel did what it did before the "collaborators" were sworn in.
