McCain would continue Bush's distasters

Reader comment on item: Obama vs. McCain on the Middle East

Submitted by Steven (United States), Jun 6, 2008 at 20:09

I respect Mr. Pipes a great deal, and consider myself a pro-Israel voter. But the issues at stake in the 2008 election, for Jews and all Americans are far too important for the president to be chosen because of his so-called "Pro-Jewish bona fides" (and Daniel Pipes, much as I love him, is not the sole judge of what constitutes "Pro-Jewish bona fides").

The economy is in the toilet, the country is snared in a seemingly endless war in Iraq that has distracted us from the still-thriving Al Qaeda presence in Afghanistan and Pakistan, health care is a mess etc. Despite John McCain's honorable career serving the United States as a military man and despite his reputation as a "maverick", as GOP candidate he has embraced the failed Bush policies that led the country into the mess its in now. More tax cuts for the rich combined with slashing non-military spending will not rescue the econonomy.

Staying in Iraq until some undefined "victory" in the future will not make this country more secure. Doing nothing or offering more supposed "free market" hoodoo will not help Americans get the kind of health care thet people in just about every other developed country expect as a birthright. Barack Obama is the kind of leader who can take this country into the future. No matter how many times John McCain repeats his mantra about "change", he won't be providing change, just the same old failed GOP policies
