Reader comment on item: Obama vs. McCain on the Middle East

Submitted by Rich Buckley, Pres (United States), Jun 5, 2008 at 10:03

We believe the United Nations should be restructured to better serve its members. A new class of non-voting membership should be created. New non-voting membership should be drawn from each religion, cult, faith system, spiritual movement, mystic path, esoteric body of practice, Gnostics, agnostics, of say 500,000 in membership, or greater.

Each group should be allowed to be officially represented in the non-voting side chambers of the United Nations in a separate body ("faith-based members") so long as the group can muster a formal body of membership of say 500,000 or greater world wide, and the group is dedicated to the spiritual development of humankind, they should qualify.

As it is now, the Vatican is the only non-voting UN member currently granted the high privilege of being seated in the UN and allowed a voice from time-to-time on the floor of the general assembly. While the voice of the Vatican is helpful, a voice-of voices from the common resolve of "faith based" UN members would serve many useful purposes of peace.

There are important functions that should be assigned to our proposed faith based non-voting members, functions that always escape corrupt government's oversight for which these new faith-based groups would be given responsibility to offer moral guidance (without enforcement power) and address the General Assembly once every six months: Interreligious Dialogue, Human Rights, Moral and Spiritual Advisers to the world on issues of super-majority agreement, Watchdoges on Slave-trade, international illegal drug distribution and vice. The group will in time find their bearings and offer the world perspective to face, understand, and deal with hot issues of in the age of social, economic, and spiritual evolution mankind is now experiencing.
