Dr. Pipes mentions one Nabil El-Ibiary in this article. Readers might be interested in some of the documentation for what Pipes says about him. Here is a URL for a list of his writings on the website of the New Carrolton Masjid where El-Ibiary is imam; the defense of bin Laden's reputation comes in "How to Send Muslims Astray":

http://www.carrolltonmasjid.org/default.asp?fcontent=articles

And here is an item from the Sheppard Senator, describing Imam El-Ibiary's service at Sheppard AFB:

This raises the question: Did Master Sgt. Abdullah Shamsid-din know about Imam El-Ibiary's views or not? If he did know, and invited him, I have to wonder: is it appropriate to invite an apologist for Osama bin Laden to a USAF base? If he didn't know and invited him, I have to wonder: how come I know more about Imam El Ibiary's views than the guy who invited him to speak at an air force base?

I have to say I'm amused at the number of my Muslim brothers on this message board, who, when confronted with the simplest questions, can only respond by saying "Allahu Alim." I confess: I used to use this trick myself--in high school calculus, when I couldn't figure out the answer to a difficult question. But at a certain point, one finally comes to maturity and ceases to play such childish games. The Prophet Muhammad (salala ho alihi wassalam) came to do away with jahilliya, not to spread it.

It's time, Muslim brothers and sisters, to stop pretending that you don't know what you really ought to know. I always thought "sumun, buqmun, unyun, fahum" was the predicament of the kuffar. It's kind of pathetic to see that it's become the self-imposed predicament of American Muslims.
