The New York Times covered this in a front-page story ("Pentagon Says It Will Review Chaplain Policy") of considerable length yesterday (Sunday, September 28). But despite the number of column inches under Laurie Goodstein's byline, only a minimum of evidence (far less than Pipes cites) was adduced to support concerns about "Pentagon Jihadis." The amount of space devoted to rebuttal of Schumer was very disproportinate to the amount given the senator to state the case. A Georgetown professor (MESA member) was quoted, "For people like Senator Schumer to make a blanket judgment is just ludicrous."
