Slogans And DiatribesReader comment on item: Turkey, Still a Western Ally? Submitted by Seamus MacNemi (United States), Dec 10, 2007 at 05:48 Some of you might think I'm nuts but I agree with Mel. What he is saying is only the simple truth of the matter. If you start looking at the Turkish People as human beings instead of Muslims you also might grasp the reality of the situation. Being a Muslim in Turkey is like being a Catholic in Italy. That's what you are because that's all you have. It's a part of your culture and is as naturally a part of who you are as the language you speak. Most people in our world have little real knowledge of the world beyond their villages and the members of their family and immediate community. That's true even in America where one would expect a much higher degree if sophisitcation and general education. It's only with the advent of the internet that we have been able to communicate to any degree beyond the limits of our geographical surroundings. We all have a lot to learn from each other but in order to learn and grow we must be willing to look beyond the limits of our limited experience and understanding. The future awaits us with open arms only if we have the courage to accept the challenge the future offers. We must be willing to leave behind the limited perceptions of our experiences thus far and step across the threshold of the door of oportunity into the unknown realms of possibility. The future will be only what we choose to make it. Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes. Original writing only, please.
