Gary, you wrote: "I question the assumption that we can topple the Iranian regime by appealing to the Iranian people. How certain are we that their views, particularly toward Israel, differ enough from those of their rulers so as to ensure that a new government in Iran would not be just as bent upon "wiping Israel off the face of the map?"
Gary, I agree with your analysis. I have long thought that the people of Iran are no different than the atrocious leaders who are ruling them. If the people wanted to throw the mullahs out, it would have been done long time ago. The common man in Iran is just as fervent religious fanatic as their masters, the ayatollahs. There is no doubt about it!!! It is the Western leaders illusion that common Iranians hate Iran's leaders. Muslim's hate of jews, christians, and other non-muslims comes directly from their allah and his book Quran, so how will a Iranian Muslim be any different than other Muslims who do the same. Hence a change of government in Iran is going to do nothing as far as Israel is concerned.
"I doubt that most Iranians are without any ill feelings toward Israel, even absent the current regime. Can we really hope a regime change in Iran would make any real difference?"
Right!! No change will happen towards Israel or others. How can they(Iranians) disobey allah and incur his wrath!
