Reader comment on item: [Lee Harris on Why the U.S. is] Discarding War's Rules

Submitted by Bernard Langdon (Canada), Jul 30, 2003 at 23:19

Fortunately, other Nations have not experienced the events of 9/11 or the consequences that Israel has suffered by the constant and insidious bloodletting by Islamist terrorism since the declaration of it's existance in 1948. And naturally the United States of America is perceived as a friend of Israel to be hated by Muslim extremists as Germany in two world wars saw Woodrow Wilson and Franklin Roosevelt as an inimical foe; as did the Soviets at a later time. Strange how similiar the propaganda to instill hatred against both America and the world of Judaism. America and Israel have chosen a reply of limited deadly force.

No Muslim Religious leader has issued a fatwah against the terrorists. Rather their silence continues as a deafening comment, while we in the west use only a series of mea culpa's to bemoan the innocent lives lost. And blame these victims for their fate.

I now regretfully agree with Harris - a measured deadly response that targets specific perpetrators and symbols of power.

Or should we wait until countries like Iran become the force they aspire to be?
