Reader comment on item: The Liberty Incident: The 1967 Israeli Attack on the U.S. Spy Ship

Submitted by An American-Israeli (Israel), Mar 19, 2003 at 06:59

Many of the people who have posted and constantly state that the attack was deliberate (i.e. they knew the ship was American while bombing it),
had better explain the following:

1) Please produce a plausible motive for sinking an American ship when the US was Israel's only reliable ally in the midst of a three front war.
Please produce hard evidence for this assertion.

2) Please explain, if the attack indeed took place for several hours (take your pick two/six), then how is it that the Israeli army didn't sink
the boat.

3) Please put forth evidence as to WHO GAVE the order to destroy the Liberty.
Please produce evidence of said orders.

4) Please explain why the incident wasn't simply a case of a collosal screw-up.
The Israeli army has suffered a number of such incidents over the years, including Zealim Bet, and friendly fire incidents during the Yom Kippur War.

BTW, Bregman's assertion was dealt with by Oren in Six Days of War. Crying pro-Israel bias is disingenous, considering that many of the authors who have
supported Ennes & Co's version of the story happen to be anti-Israel.

Guys, you can scream cover-up and deliberate assault all you want. One of the sacred principles in American jurisprudence is that a suspect of a crime is innocent until proven guilty. The burden of proof is upon YOU to demonstrate the opposite.
