Rethinking the Egypt-Israel "Peace" Treaty

Reader comment on item: Rethinking the Egypt-Israel "Peace" Treaty

Only Sadat and few others interested in democratizing Egypt made peace with Israel.

Mubarak needs a convenient enemy to keep his authority. Nothing better than a common enemy to him and the Egyptian Muslim Masses: Israel.

Why create a new enemy when one already exists that permits him not to confront the real problem of his people and his country?

He is a crypto Islamist who has no interest in democracy. Under his rules, the extreme Islam is gaining power and when he disappears, the vacuum will be replaced by the Brotherhood since he has been doing everything to prevent the development of democratic principles and democracy.

Many more generations will need to wait for humanistic leaders in many Muslim countries.

Israel should know better, it is a cold peace with no possibility of trust. Muslims do not even trust each other so what should Israel expect?
