Loyalty of party over America must stop

Reader comment on item: A Reluctant but Unhesitating Vote for Donald Trump

Submitted by Jason Anderson (United States), Jun 5, 2020 at 02:25

I get having conservative views, but do you think the country is better off today than it was 4 years ago? The president should be bringing the country together during times of crisis... Trump has managed to increase the divide. I love my country too much to allow this to continue so I am going with the love of my country over my party, which has lost it's moral way under his leadership. I refuse to sell my soul to the devil...but I hope you can live with it.

Daniel Pipes replies:

I am not a Republican, so there is no issue of party loyalty for me.

Lots of problems with Trump, but I don't set up against a Platonic ideal of a philosopher-king. I compare him to Hillary to Biden.
