Interview questions

Reader comment on item: Smoking Out Islamists via Extreme Vetting

The interview questions are excellent, and it it obvious that many of them come from the Koran.

I think it would still more effective just to quote those passages from the Koran and then ask the prospective immigrant whether or not he agrees with it. This places him in the uncomfortable position of having to deny his god directly if he answers that he does not agree. That is harder than simply saying he does not agree with the questions themselves.

In fact, the interview could be effective and consists merely of one question: "Do you believe that the Koran is Allah's literal word?" Anyone who answers "yes" should be excluded. Any Moslem who answers "No" is automatically an apostate. Any Moslem would experience great nervousness if he lied and answered "No". Even "moderate Moslems" will not answer "No" because they know that they will be considered apostates if they do.

I disagree when Pipes says: "...but anti-Islamist Muslims are the key to ending the Islamist surge, as they alone can offer a humane and modern alternative to Islamist obscurantism." .... Any of us can offer a humane and modern alternative to supremacist Islamic doctrines. Why bother with "anti-Islamist Muslims" who have no support in the Islamic religious community? By definition, "anti-Islamist" must mean denying many passages in the Koran and the Sunnah, and that is why these "anti-Islamist Muslims" are considered to be almost apostates by their own religious community.
