Reader comment on item: Smoking Out Islamists via Extreme Vetting
in response to reader comment: American Constitutional Rights - for the Rest of (Wo)mankind

Robert

Thank you for addressing me, but perhaps you misunderstand the points I was making and why. Its a small world and the USA is has a secular government. Questions addressed to Muslims today, whether on our borders or in FBI interviews, will be addressed to Christians, Jews, Sikhs and Mormons tomorrow.

Categories of thought need to be created in order to ferret out anti-constitutional ideologies and goals, without confusing those goals with common feelings and practices of devoutly religious people. Practices of all branches of government will be subject to litigation, and non-discrimination with regard to religion will remain a rock bottom foundation of the courts' decisions. It is a fantasy to think otherwise. This fact provides protection.

The only way to keep our protections from creating vulnerability is to distinguish religion from anti-constitutional programs and strategies on the one hand, and practices of domestic violence on the other hand. It is possible to draw those distinctions with very bright lines, and it is our only way forward.

Warm regards

Erich
