Dear Dr Pipes:

Your reader Sinem Tezyapar from Turkey states very articulately that Islamic forces always acted in defence. Sinem is 100% right. Muhammad dies around 630 AD. Within 72 years of Muhammad's death Islamic forces had reached Spain on the West and Sindh on the East. Yes, they were defending themselves by crossing the boundaries of other country. Be my guest Sinem Tezyapar.
