Alcohol itself has no benefit. Sure a small amount of alcohol may not give you liver disease, but it can cause so many other problems. Esophageal cancer, gastritis, thiamine deficiency...the list really is countless. And there's also this little thing called drunk driving that kills tons of people every year in Western countries.

As for the supposedly cardioprotective benefits of red wine, its no the alcohol but other components that offer those benefits. If it was the alcohol than beer, liquor, spirits and white wines would offer similar benefits but they don't.
