Reader comment on item: The Motives Behind Palestinian Leader's Effort to Gain Statehood at U.N.
in response to reader comment: Necessity of Two States for Two Peoples for the Survival of Israel

Submitted by Melvin A. Fechter (United States), Nov 17, 2012 at 01:57

How long can the world remain with its eyes wide shut! Forever, it seems. There isn't going to be "Two States for Two Peoples." There has been, is, and will be only one Sovereign State, and that is Israel. Israel should allow a Sovereign State of Palestine? A man should place a knife in the hands of his assassin? I don't think so. The Palestinians, or at least their leaders, don't even want a state of their own; they just want a better opportunity to destroy the Modern State of Israel. They won't get it - in the form of a sovereign state or otherwise. They will remain at most guests, hospitable or inhospitable, upon an alien land. Today, Hamas is goading Israel into a war that that Hamas will have good reason to regret. Mohamed Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood are rearing their ugly heads in support of Hamas, and Egypt, too, will have cause again for regret. Israel will be able to meet the challenge. Israel is a warrior-nation, true, but only because it has been allowed no alternative. As for maintaining its democratic form, it has more potentiality of that today than has America.
