Reader comment on item: Obama's Muslim Childhood

Submitted by 147DegreesWest (United States), Sep 14, 2012 at 09:56

You can't blame a man for how he was raised, but you CAN hold a man accountable for how he lives his life. Here is the piece of information that you are missing that links his past to his political career

The first law Barack Obama proposed to the Illinois State Legislature was making Iftar a state paid holiday.

It is in the records. Go look. It is still there. It never made it out of committee, but he proposed it. In fact, he was so furious that it never made it on the calendar that he vowed to vote Present until it was moved out of committee.

Even Ahmad Murad, the most prominent of the Palestinians in American Policy at the time favored tabling the matter.

Daniel Pipes replies:

It's not clear what you are saying Obama proposed, for "iftar" is not a holiday but the evening breaking of the fast meal after sunset during the month of Ramadan.

Are you claiming that Obama proposed that the whole month of Ramadan be paid holiday in Illinois? If so, that sounds pretty unlikely.
