Reader comment on item: Claiming Jerusalem is in the Koran

Submitted by Dr. Richard Benkin (United States), Mar 7, 2012 at 06:30

As usual, Dr. Pipes is flawless. Hosein's pamphlet is part of what I call "historical jihad" in my book, "A Quiet Case of Ethnic Cleansing: the Murder of Bangladesh's Hindus." That is, one aspect of jihad's current and virulent form is the attempt to re-write history for political ends. Hence, the myth of Jerusalem in the Koran, the denial of the ancient Ram Temple at Ayodha, the invention of an ancient "Palestinian" history, and so forth.

It also takes the form of creating "facts on the ground," such as the Jordanians' destruction of Jewish community institutions and buildings during their occupation of Jerusalem, the Taliban's infamous destruction of ancient Buddha statues, and on and on and on. What makes this even more tragic is the ignorant appeasement of so many westerners that gives unwarranted credence to the false claims of historical jihad.
