Reader comment on item: Qaddafi's Ignominious End
in response to reader comment: What about directing worldwide jihad against China ?

The boom-bust economic model needs a flourishing military-industrial-complex to keep the wheels turning. A total absence of war over the world will completely destroy civilization as we know it. From that perspective, any world leader will soon be forgotten unless he can drum up an enemy- real or imaginary. For the first half of twentieth century it was the communist bogey. Now the world leader has to invent another enemy to keep us sheeple in line. islam is an eminently suitable substitute. This is not to say that islam is an innocent babe. The world leader cannot lead the sheeple if there is no wolf. Like some wag said about god, if there were no enemy we will have to invent one.
