Democracy and Islam

Reader comment on item: Qaddafi's Ignominious End
in response to reader comment: Nothing to rejoice

Dr Pipes:

Will democracy and Islam ever mix? If one were to follow Islam to its last dictum, the answer is no. But one does not have to follow Islam to the last dictum. The God's word and the Prophets actions will stay comfortably enshrined in the books and must Muslims will sooner or later realize that it is unsustainably expensive to defend every little right or wrong of Islam. It is our duty to highlight Islamic hypocrisy as often as we see it and at as many places as we see it. When this is done more and more often, eventually, democracy will come to countries where Islam dominates.
