Dear Dr Pipes:

Like your reader Syed Muhammad Ali, I am also happy that Turkey is returning to its Islamic roots. In modern times no country that follows Islamic system of government and that does not have oil reserves is prosperous or happy. Pakistan, Bangladesh, Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco, Ethiopia, Sudan, and many others are examples of the dictum that Islamic system of running a country leads to failure unless backed by enormous amounts of natural resources. Turkey has no oil wealth. With regressive values that are presented as Islamic values, Turkey's experiment with Islamism will fail very quickly.
