On knowledge of Hebrew

I doubt that at that time there were many outside of the Jewish community had any knowledge of Hebrew. This was certainly true of most of the fathers of the church. Nor did they care to learn. For most of them Hebrew was the tongue of the devil or so they regarded the Jews.
