Reader comment on item: India, the Most Pro-Israel Country

Submitted by Jago (Netherlands), Apr 25, 2009 at 07:35

This doesn't surprise me. India has faced the menace of islamic terrorism and domination for a very long time now. That leaves its scars so it is natural that indians (and esspecially Hindus) will symphatise with a tiny nation that also stands in the frontline and fights against the forces of islamic jihad.

Also anti-semitism is very rare (to almost non-excistent) in India, as far as i know India has been one of the very few countries in which jews as a people could live in peace and rise to prominent positions. I as someone having a hindu background like jews because (despite some differences we might have religiously) Jews are the only one of the Abrahamic family that don't go round proselytising people, forcibly converting them, waging holy wars etc etc. In countries other than Israel Jews like to stick to themselves and avoid bothering their non-jewish neighbours and Hindus are like that too. There are also many more cultural similarities as someone above pointed out the importance of getting a good education is one of them.

I really hope India changes it's foreign policy to back Israel more in the open. Much of India-Israel cooperation is now done behind the curtains because India's politicians don't want to alienate their muslim and leftwing votebank.

... the arabs and long live Israel.
