Reader comment on item: Will Geert Wilders Show His Film on the Koran[, Fitna]?

But I am concerned with what is happening in the Muslim world and how the west is dealing with it.

From my point of view we in the west have become somewhat complacent, fat and lazy. And I am willing to include myself in that group. We spend far too much time worrying about offending other people's sensitivities. I think the political correctness our combined western cultures have ushered in over the past 2 decades has eroded our ability to speak up and be heard in fear of being criticized as being intolerant or being accused of racial stereotyping.

Although I consider myself to be to ignorant to provide a comment on the Fitna movie, I do recognize the fact that it has increased public awareness to the radical Islamists, has started conversations such as we find here and has created such a world wide fervor that it should never be banned or removed from the media.

The Islamist extremists exist, its a fact. Whether it is the Qu'ran that has inspired them is somewhat irrelevant. We as a society have an obligation to rid the world of all forms of extremism, not matter what label it is found under.

In the case of the Islam extremists, if the majority of the Muslim religion is not extremist as they claim, and they DO NOT SUPPORT the extemist movement then it is THEIR RESPONSIBILITY to be the first in line to publicly denounce the extremists as loudly and often as they possibly can. Then their claim of moderacy would be more acceptable.

This forum is a perfect place for that to happen, and I am pretty sure there have been many moderate Muslims who have read some of what has been said here and I don't recall a single comment by people claiming to be current Muslims that condemn the radicals.

Too bad..............................
