He is already in our High Schools!Reader comment on item: The Iraq Dilemma Submitted by Colleen Willis (United States), May 6, 2007 at 14:14 Many of the replies are from people who say they would not send their child to a school where Howard Zinn's philosophy is being preached. I found this article while doing research into the ideas that my daughter's high school history teacher has been browbeating the class with. The teacher constantly refers to the United States as an 'Empire', works up the students until they want to take Paris Hilton's wealth from her and redistribute it to the poor, and teaches that the terrorists were justified in their assult on the U.S. on 9/11. Students that disagree with her are hounded for months on whether they have changed their opinions yet (to an opinion in line with hers). The teacher stated the Alamo was an Imperiallistic act by the U.S. government, while oblivious to the foundation of the Republic of Texas. This is a ninth grade world history class. The ideas expressed by Howard Zinn have been wholeheartedly accepted by this teacher, who in turn is impressing them upon a group of impressionable youth who do not know enough of the facts of history to even realize the misrepresentations that are being rewritten by Zinn. Children are being taught these ideas. Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes. Original writing only, please.
