Reader comment on item: Where the Nazi "Big Lie" Endures

Submitted by Felipe Ornelas (United States), May 1, 2007 at 10:04

It is interesting to see a tangible link between the Nazi ideology and Radical Islam in the person of Johann von Leers. Not that the Mufti of Jerusalem and Hitler is not a substantial link, but it's the shared idea of a perverted utopia built somehow on the foundation of Anti-Semitism and genocide that strikes me.

The battle of propaganda versus fact is more important than ever. As George Will has noted upon several occasions, civilization is at war with an opponent that believes ideas are important, and the Islamists appears to be winning that war at the moment. This helps me understand the ferocity of attacks Islamist launch against people speaking the truth.

Mr. Pipes, Ms. Mangi, Ms. Hirsi-Ali, and Mr. Rushdie, along with many persecuted and deceased men and women, know all too well how important the battle for the minds of a culture is to Islamists. I wonder if a battle for truth can be won by a post-modern society, or if the facts will be enough to see civilization through to victory over barbarism.
