David Wolf (Nov. 7): "declared aggressive intent" toward USReader comment on item: The Liberty Incident: The 1967 Israeli Attack on the U.S. Spy Ship Submitted by david walsh (United States), Jan 14, 2003 at 12:16 "...Israel has never declared any intent to use any weapons (not so much as a handgun) in an aggressive manner against the US...." Oh? They mightn't have declared their intent beforehand, but besides the attack on the Liberty, weapons a lot bigger than handguns have been used "against the US." I direct commentator Wolf to the events of the early 1980s, when according to The Washington Post and other accounts Israeli soldiers conducted "reconnaissance by fire" towards the US Marine positions in Beirut. They employed heavy machineguns and other weapons (likely provided by the US) for the reckless, life-threatening harassment of our forces.Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
