David Wolf (Nov. 7): "declared aggressive intent" toward US

"...Israel has never declared any intent to use any weapons (not so much as a handgun) in an aggressive manner against the US...." Oh? They mightn't have declared their intent beforehand, but besides the attack on the Liberty, weapons a lot bigger than handguns have been used "against the US." I direct commentator Wolf to the events of the early 1980s, when according to The Washington Post and other accounts Israeli soldiers conducted "reconnaissance by fire" towards the US Marine positions in Beirut. They employed heavy machineguns and other weapons (likely provided by the US) for the reckless, life-threatening harassment of our forces.
