Worship of False Idols

Some 500 hundred plus years ago, King Darius, at the urging of his presidents, governors, princes, counsellors and captains, established a decree and signed in writing according to the law of the Medes and Persians, that all the citizens of the kingdom bow and worship the statue of the king and that no petition be made to any other god.

Daniel, contrary to this law, continued to bow down three times a day and pray to the God of the Israelites. Daniel was arrested for this treason and cast into the lions den. By the way, as the story goes, he survived. How ironic that today a Daniel (Dr. Daniel Pipes) again refuses to bow down and worship the false gods constructed by men.

And who are these false gods? While we don't call them gods today, our worshipping of idols continues. Our false gods or idols of today are our star athletes, our movie stars and wealth (money), just to name a few. Oh yes, just as our ancestors did many years ago, we worship many gods.

From some of the sneering and angry posts, (Dr.) Daniel's refusal to worship at the feet of Muhammad Ali has stirred the ire of the more fervent worshippers and were it possible, they would soon cast Dr. Daniel into the proverbial lion's den. Do not worry Daniel, you are not alone, as there are many more of us today who are also refusing to worship the false idols of our society and we too will be protected in the lion's den.
