What Pipes failed to include...is that the Supreme Court overturned Ali's conviction for draft evasion in late 1971. The finding was, in short, that the Selective Service rules of the day were unConstitutional for failing to provide due process for Conscientious Objector applicants. Therefore, Ali is not any sort of criminal.

George Bush, on the other hand, is a deserter in time of war, and Dick Cheney and most of this administration are draft-dodging chickenhawks.
