Unfortunately, those who share Daniel Pipes's views are in a minorityReader comment on item: Can Hezbollah and Hamas Be Democratic? Submitted by Octavio Johanson (Italy), Mar 23, 2005 at 07:01 Speaking of Hezbollah and Hamas, if the West was united in condemning such Islamist groups, the confrontation with Militant Islam would be won within a year. The problem is that the West is not united in seeing Hezbollah and Hamas as morally wrong. Indeed, some people in the West see Hezbollah and Hamas as morally justified. Some in the West refuse to condemn them because they are Muslims and that would be seen as racist. I don't agree with Oriana Fallaci and her rage. But I agree with Daniel Pipes and like-minded people. Unfortunately, most Westerners do not share such views. I would never do business with Hamas and Hezbollah and the same is true for most people who write to Daniel Pipes. However, we need to deal with the fact that most of our country-men and women in the West do not view things as we (can I say "we"?) do.
