You capture a central problem in our thinking with a very well
documented case and your summary is right on target:
"They know only civil liberties; national security does not register."

I think a lot (now) about why so many people think in this way.
I think it has something to do with a kind of moral vanity that disdains
concern for security as something selfish.

But before we speculate on what this represents, it's necessary
to make absolutely clear what it is -- and you have done that
splendidly here.

You're great.
