Reader comment on item: [The Abu Ali Case and] Balancing Liberties, Security

Submitted by Paul Rhoads (France), Mar 1, 2005 at 17:59

This thesis, that security does not register with liberals, is an excellent point. But why? I think it is because they live in an imaginary world where evil is equated with authority, or any sort of control or norms. They have theorized, and then convinced themselves, that anti-social acts are only the consequence of pyschological damage caused by repression, that if people were left 'free' they would never do anything anyone would disaprove of. America, of course, is the nasty authority 'repressing' the suffering 3d worlders, and Bush is the top-dog authoritarian.

The only way they are going to wake up is when reality blind-sides them, personally, with a sufficient impact to dislodge their attention from the navels of their angelic cerebral constructions.
