Assertions versus reasoning

Reader comment on item: Fund the Palestinians? Bad Idea
in response to reader comment: "Objections to Ayn Rand's Objectivist Ethics"

Submitted by David (United States), Jan 27, 2013 at 08:22

You write as if Rand had presented no arguments or reasons for her conclusions. You can list a hundred conclusions and contradict them from your perspective, but you're not really engaging with her thought thereby. In the assertion that it's an illegitimate move to say that because men are egoistic (which they are not, consistently) to the claim that they should be egoistic, you're leaving out all of Rand's observations and reasoning about the nature of life and value in, for example, the extended discussion of "The Objectivist Ehtics." It's as if you had critiqued Einstein by declaring, "It's an illegitimate move for Einstein, simply because energy is in the world and matter is in the world, to assume that E = mc[2].
