Destroy or Cripple

Reader comment on item: Reflections on Current Hamas-Israel Hostilities

Submitted by Abraham Santiago (United States), Nov 16, 2012 at 13:30

Here is one observation that has come to light in the past couple of days. The IDF is projecting to the media that their stated goal is to "cripple" Hamas and prevent the launching of rockets and missiles into Israel. If this is their stated goal, then there will be a great loss of life among IDF soldiers and Israeli civilians. Here lies the problem; the concept of neutralizing the enemy is a poor operational military policy. In order to win a war against your enemies on the home front you cannot neutralize the enemy you must eradicate the enemy.

When an enemy seeks your life and that of your family and country you do not neutralize the enemy, you destroy them completely so they will never again re-group and try to kill you. Israel is faced with a media war and a quasi-terrorist state in Judea that seeks to eliminate her from the face of the earth. Israel must show her toughness and blatantly announce her intentions. Her intentions should be broadcast to the media that she will completely destroy Hamas not cripple her, annex Gaza and repopulate Gaza with Israeli citizens. The international community will react vehemently, but that is the price we pay to secure a safe Israel.
