I have a saying: "It's always the stinkin' money." I can't dismiss your claim outright.

In this instance it's not just money. It's a contest over leadership. Khaled Mash'al stepped down as HAMAS' leader. In order to win the favor of HAMAS, those seeking to replace him must be seen actively attacking Israel and not just talking about it.
