Reader comment on item: Niqab Security Outrages at Airports

Submitted by William Klein (Canada), Aug 4, 2010 at 06:45

A few years ago, while changing planes on a flight to Montreal in Toronto, ON, there was an individual (who could tell anything about that individual) just about five people ahead of me, in the line to board the plane. We were all asked for photo-ID.

When it was my turn, I asked how "that individual" was cleared through, since I didn't see any attempt to see the face of that individual. I thought that others in the queue would ask the same thing.

The "security agent" told me that everything was "all right, sir". But, I wasn't satisfied with that reply, so I asked again: "How did you check the identity of that individual?" And, again, the reply was "It's all right, sir."

Since nobody else in the line took up the cause, I feared that if I persisted, I would be prevented from boarding the plane, and perhaps arrested and charged. So I let it go.

But I wrote to the government, and never received so much as an acknowledgement of my letter, let alone any change in the "security" policy at the airport.
