Muslim Security Personnel

Reader comment on item: Niqab Security Outrages at Airports

Submitted by Edward Halper (United States), Aug 27, 2010 at 00:06

Leaving from the Toronto airport February 2010, I was singled out for a special security check. It was performed by a Muslim woman in a head scarf. In fact, many of the security people at the airport seemed to be of the same ethnicity as the woman checking me, and other women in security were wearing scarfs. I could not help wondering whether Muslim passengers were subjected to the same level of screening. In principle, there should not be anything wrong with observant Muslims working in security --provided that they themselves are thoroughly screened. I wonder what sort of background checks had been performed on them. In any case, there certainly were sufficient female security personnel to check passengers wearing niqabs.
