I seem to recall van gogh's killer going one better

As I recall, not only did the note he uh, pinned to victim's chest with a knife, since no pin was to be found, read "...europe will go down, the west will go down" and (possibly) that Islam will take over but in his trial, didn't he say "I did it because I am a muslim"?

Somehow, no matter how often these men clearly state their goal and their drive, it's always airbrushed away or treated ( condescendingly?) as though the protagonist doesn't understand his own motives, which usually are about money or um, islamophobia, but which he himself is somehow too dim to comprehend (perhaps he's blinded by his relative wealth and by his being something of a pillar of the community the president of a university's muslim council). And on and on it goes.

Perhaps in 10 or 20 years this madness will be over, replaced with a new one.
