Limping AwayReader comment on item: Limping away from a Shattered Iraq Submitted by Arif Jayish al Amriki (United States), Jul 9, 2009 at 09:23 We are not limping away, we are kind of walking out standing up, having done the best we could. Whether they can keep it together is now their business. I say this having forged (and I mean forged) friendships while there, which still endure. You are completely ignoring that we stumbled into the major, major victory of defeating AQ's main effort at the time with the full assistance of their fellow Sunni's. They totally have now discredited the AQ narrative in the heart of the Arab world and to the Muslim world, revealing themselves to be low life gangsters and a death cult. As the worst of terrorists often do. They were not just militarily defeated but morally defeated. It's as if somehow the German resistance had succeeded in defeating the Nazi's. It was bad luck, bad planning for no Phase IV (post Saddam) followed by a lot of noble, dedicated people working very hard to salvage it, and our image. Bush - should have started digging deeper, faster. Now to his credit he listened to his women when one of them warned him he was getting the MACV-Iraq BS from his Generals, passed on by his probably complicit SECDEF. Who BTW wanted out within 120 days of the start of the conflict - that per John Keegans "The Iraq War". It's not been refuted.
