Iraq

I'm an old man and not very versed in "blogs". What I would like to express is my wholehearted agreement with the contents and spirit of this article. I used to know another America, that of 1945 and, historically, that of 1918; no Vietnams, no Koreas, no "substitutes for victory"; there aren't any, as Doug Mc. Arthur rightly proclaimed.

Daniel Pipes' assertion - which I very well remember and fully shared - that US military might should be concentrated in the desert and the Iraquis left to their own killings, now proves completely correct, with the dire consequences of playing missionaries of democracy instead. And what about Afghanistan, now ? The Russian precedent not good enough ? Anybody remember Rudyard Kipling's "Kim" ? Then you have Iran and the Middle East for which noble minded people will fill us up with ever more populous conferences. If you think you can create a functioning world government, do it; but until then foreign policy must remain the defence of the vital interests of one's own country.
