We can hope all we want to, but "hope" can sometimes leave itself open to a different reality.

I would add Russia ss one of the countries that paid hugely for signing onto the Hitler bandwagon, and, of course, the Arab nations. Russia paid dearly as the Arabs would have if Hitler had eventually defeated everyone else. The Arab nations have never been able to see beyond their hatred of anything non- Islamic, and that especially applies to Israel.
