Well, that didn't take longReader comment on item: Insight into Obama's Middle East Policy? Submitted by Jeff (United States), Jan 8, 2009 at 22:30 I have been wondering for some time how long it would take for the Bush hatred throughout the Islamic world to begin to transfer to Barak Obama, after he becomes president. I had guessed 6-12 months, as President Obama assumed and began to carry out the responsibilities of the president and commander in chief. I never thought the hate-transfer process would be quite so quick, and begin before Mr. Obama even became president, before he even possessed or exercised any presidential power. But, it has. Beloved Islamic hero and Al Qaeda number 2 in command, Ayman al-Zawahiri, said a few days ago: "This is Obama whom the American machine of lies tried to portray as the rescuer who will change the policy of America. He kills your brothers and sisters in Gaza mercilessly and without affection." How quickly President Bush has been forgotten, even while he's still president. Mr. al-Zawahiri displays a pathetic level of (feigned) ignorance, as Barak Obama is currently unemployed, holds no position of power, and makes no governing decisions. But, as it's silly to let simple facts get in the way, there's no reason not to start up the outright lies and frenzy of hatred a couple of weeks before Obama even becomes president. Always best to get a jump on these things, isn't it? Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes. Original writing only, please.
