Reader comment on item: Is the Middle East "Freer, More Hopeful, and More Promising"?
in response to reader comment: "Our legacy is over"

I understand why you don't want to take ownership for your county's mistakes over these past thousands of years and it is easier for you to peer at another country so you don't have to take responsibility for your own. I myself have to fight that urge, so I will continue by saying: I take ownership for my country's mistakes.

Now let me address your blaming one of our soldiers for killing one of your press. I recall when the Islamic terrorists were blowing up Israels on buses and in markets and the very young Israeli soldiers would move through the city streets to try and capture or kill the perpetrators of thes attacks, the press would climb on the rooftops and point their cameras at the soldiers so they could catch all the excitement. I thought: Those cameras must look like the weapons to those young soldiers, in a split second how do they tell the differance? I don't think they can. One difference I do know is that the vast majority of those young soldiers do not want to kill innocent civilians but the islamic terrorists do not care.

As for your Spanish treasures: Take my advice and hold the treasures in your heart that no man can take away from you.
