The Khadr Family Is Much More Complicated

Reader comment on item: [The Khadrs:] Canada's First Family of Terrorism

Submitted by Chris Reeves (Canada), May 14, 2008 at 17:05

As much as americans want to believe that anyone that is associated with Al Queda is obviosly a dangerous criminal, this is not true. No one in the Khadr family with the exeption of Ahmed Said has been linked to terrorism, or has been identified as a member of Al Queda.

Maha Khadr is nothing more than Ahmed Said's wife and Zaynab Khard is nothing more than there daughter.

Furthermore there is no valid proof that any of their sons can be linked to actual terrorist activity because although they were in Al Queda camps, with a father that they had it would have been impossible to not be put in those training programs...much like a father sending his kid to boot camp, that doesn't mean that they were anything more than child soldiers.

Omar Khadr can not be called a terrorist because he was fifteen and was arrested for apparently "throwing a grenade at a 'u.s. medic' in Afghanistan", first of all, initially when this story surfaced it was not a 'medic' but an armed soldier, secondly that armed soldier was probably attacking afghani forces. So what you mean to say is not that Omar Khadr was a terrorist attacking a u.s. medic, but a child soldier fighting for nothing more than his life. And now he has found himself locked up in Guantanamo Bay, for the crime of not allowing a u.s. marine to take his life.
