ForcedReader comment on item: Reading Sharon's Mind Submitted by Hannah Rutman (United States), Dec 23, 2003 at 12:46 While I agree with Mr. Pipes concerning Sharon's speech that this seems like a different view then he usually takes, I am astonished to see his suprise over Mr. Sharon's change of nature. Mr Pipes of all people understands what pressure is coming from the US government and how attempting to alienate Israel through words and aid has caused Sharon to attempt to apease the Americans and Israelis. The only people who are showing that terrorism works is the United States who continues to fight their own battle against terrorims via Iraq and Afganistan but rewards Yasser Araft and the PLO with their killings and suicide bombings. The first place that needs to realize that terrorism "should" not work is the White House. Mr. Bush and his government must stop playing a double standard and stick by their allies and their one democratic friend on the Middle East. There is no one to blame for the intifada (besides Yasser Arafat, PLO, and other Arab suporters) but one can argue that because of American pressure and Israel's hope that American will help bring peace, the signs of the rising intifiada were ignored and visable lies from Arafat's mouth were taken as the truth.Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
