Joshua Muravchik concerning "Moderate Islamists"Reader comment on item: Responding to Joshua Muravchik about "Moderate Islamists" Submitted by Sol Shalit (United States), May 5, 2008 at 11:28 This debate is not as purely intellectual as it appears, since it's colored by Muravchik's conflict of interest. Lots of government funds are at stake for the National Endowment for Democracy. Ultimately, it all boils down to what my late dear friend and colleague, Milton Friedman, used to say in response to the frequent question "If you are so right and so smart, why aren't you in the government?", to which Friedman always replied "I would no longer be a free agent, but a team player. I think I can better serve society free to tell the truth as I see it". The truth is, Dan, you ARE a free agent and Muravchik is not. Keep on doing the right thing!
